Artist Statement
I based my collage on my philosophy that experience is where happiness lies, not results. I depicted a road heading towards a door with no windows. The road is surrounded by clocks to represent time. The road itself consists of all of the experiences I have had or would like to have in my life, from going on a roller coaster to eating breakfast in bed. The foot represents me, zigzagging up the road instead of going straight down the middle in order to have the most experiences possible. The door represents the future; fantasizing that I know what is behind the door before I reach it is unrealistic because I have to reach it in order to open it. The geometric pattern on the sides of the horizon illustrate curtains closing like at the end of a play. The half-clock under the door represents a setting sun, or a time later than the current one.
My Philosophy
“The journey is the destination.” Life is about living, not about where you will be afterwards. Doing something for the sake of doing it leads to the most satisfaction for me. If the results of my actions are my only focus, then it is hard to find the process enjoyable. It is important to think about possible consequences of your actions, such as whether they are dangerous to you or other people in any way. Unless they are truly negative, consequences should not be worried about. One must be realistic and judge for themselves how they should approach a situation: be sure to enjoy yourself while being careful not to do something that will be harmful.
