Artist statement
My picture portrays me dressed as assassin because I like the game, I like the way they influence history. They have been apart of history and changed many ages with political killings. The game is based in Italy so I feel like it has to do with my Italian background. Italian where known for they’re secret society’s of all kinds. History is a big influence in my life and is a big influence on the history to day. This perfection will last a long time and keep changing the way we live and history. The costume represents a hidden personality and something that people don’t want to accept exists. Governments have used these means to what they want and how to help the person there supporting  “An ideal form of government is democracy tempered with assassination” by Voltaire. I have always stayed out of things, out of the way to a point and sometimes try to go unnoticed. The roof represents me being on a different level then other people.

                                                                 Artist statement :
I choose this picture to show that as we get older we never loose our identity of our past. We never outgrow our childhood. We might get more mature on the way but on that journey you can't forget where you come from. Thats why I have East Hampton written on my pants. I did this to show that I know where I come from and wont forget it. I put my face as the sun to symbolize that I have gotten older but inside I am still a child. I also put myself in the bucket to symbolize that I am always watching myself grow up and become the better person and man that I am shaping out to be. In the picture I am seen at the beach where I loved to go when I was a child and still have that love of the ocean. As Christopher Reed said " Either you Decide to stay in the shallow end of the pool or you go to the ocean".

Justin Liu's Self-Portrait

Future is a mystery, you never know what it is going to happen the next minute, or even second, but you still have to move on in your life. In other words, life is an adventure. You clearly know that the journey of your life is tough, but you have to be brave enough to break it through, along with encouragement, in order to be where you want to be – your goal. Thus, in this photo, although the path ahead is blur, but I am sure that there is happiness and hope ahead, as the sun gives me its support by shinning hard on me. I feel free. Free to be myself, and feel no stress to move on to the tough journey ahead, because I am clear where I am heading to, I am clear of my goal. I have a strong sense of direction and motivation toward my destiny; and the last thing I have to do is to face it, and break it through, and I will meet my desire eventually.

Justin Liu's Collage

In my collage, there is a clock at the center with a pair of wings formed by numerous of clock spreading outward; it represents freedom. Under the center clock, there is a group of people – policeman, doctor, firefighter, student… they represent every one of us, as every one of us has to realize the importance of time. Every second it ticks, history is created, there is no way back to the one you were being in the previous second; you either made full use of it or you had just wasted a second. One-second may means a lot, depends on the situation that you are in; it may be a moment of success or failure; it can even be a matter of live and death. The clock at the center represents the mind of the people, we have to install a clock in our head, and work with it, and treasure every moment it passes; in other words, we have to make full use of every second to make our own life meaningful. However, our mind cannot be limited by the time, we still have to think out of box, think freely; just like the pair of wings which give us a push towards our goal and destiny, where we will be eventually in our life.

Evelyn's self portrait

Art statement by Evelyn Liang

The Self-Portrait was used 4 pictures, which represent my dreams and life. Everything happens in our single day, something happy or something sad. We just need to feel them but can’t stop the time going by. I would like to record my life by painting and photography. I chose my own angle and feeling to paint and take pictures and it’s seems boring. However, human likes memory, whatever kinds of memory. The background is sunflower; I love it because of its optimism. No matter what it was suffered, it would face to sun for a new day. I just want to be a person like the sunflower with smile and confidence.

Artist statement
As an old saying goes, ”Your greatest enemy is yourself. When I want to exercise to keep fit, my idleness stop me; When I have to present my nerve retreat.
This is what I face in my life. So defeat myself is the only way to be strong. In the picture we can see two “me”, which shows that one is defeated. But either of the two can represent me, this means lose or win it’s just a choice. For me I must move forward but not lie down under my own feet.

Lilith's self portrait

I chose the picture, because I want to be free and enjoy delete my life. When I took the photograph, I was sitting at the edge of the port. It was a beautiful day; I went for a walk with my friend. In the picture, the clear sky is like my beautiful dream; the wind is like my free wings. Our life is like a long street, we have to go ahead by foot, step by step. Everybody’s trip is different, we can’t understand the view of others’ life, and so we just need to concentrate on adventure of ourselves. I believe my adventure would be the best one of the world, because I was seriously considered every direction I have chosen, and never regret, like I am really enjoy my life. However pain or difficulty, nobody can control my emotion and my belief, I hold my life n my hand, I am free!

2012 Media Study Rye Deng art statement The picture I took reminds me of a saying that "What pains us trains us". The broken tree which was chopped into two parts by the Hurricane Sandy. It's almost winter but he is still standing still and even without the upper part. The tree is the symbol of being brave and unyielding. I cannot help recalling of myself. I made perhaps the biggest decision in my life, studying and living aboard. It's tough for me, a dependent to live far away my family and the culture I used to be familiar with. I know that there's no shortcut to anywhere worth going. The philosophy I hold is that man is not made foe defeat. although life is tough, you can be tougher. The value affects me to try everything I could before the real failure. Being respectful to the nature, sometimes could teach you how to be a great gladiator.

Art statement.

In my self-portrait I used the most important concepts for my in my life and my dreams.
I start to decide which concepts to use by thinking about what I want to do with my life. I’ve always dream about becoming a doctor, so I though about the reasons why I want to do that. I concluded that the thing that I like the most about being a doctor is bringing hope and faith, and finally bring happiness, and this happiness is reached when you the best that you can and you cure other’s people problems, so I used the word “cure” in my picture because it represents a lot about me and my dreams.
I also used words in different languages to show that I like languages and learning them and that some day one of my dreams is to speak 5 languages or more.
One of the words that I used was “ family” this is to represent that family is one of the most important things for me. Another word was Mexico to represent my nationality, that I think it represents me too.
In my back I draw the Gemini symbol to represent my astrological symbol.
Finally I put a lot of images in one background to represent that wherever I am, I will always be myself and the things that represent my will be there too.
The background of my self portrait represents more than only what you can see. The background it’s a panoramic picture taken by me in Palenque, Mexico, it’s a cultural place were the mayas lived and its one of the most important places in north America. This represents where I come from and my nationality which is very important to me.

Trial and Errors

For my it was hard to decide what to do, and to figure out what are the things that represent me, but once I decided everything was easier. The only problem I had was I didn’t have enough time to take
