Artist Statement
Ronald Graham, a prominent mathematician, once said: “Juggling
is sometimes called the art of controlling patterns, controlling patterns in
time and space.” This is in part the reason why I juggle, the feeling of being
in control is important to me. If I can’t control a situation it makes me
uncomfortable, but aside from this I don’t really know why I like the feeling
of control involved with juggling . I am wearing old-fashioned clothing because
the past has a certain draw to me. So much has happened in the past that
influences who we are today, and what will happen in the future. The future is
also a concept that calls to me, the amount of scientific advances we are
making today dictates that the future will be an incredible place, and a place
I want to see. I put the sky in the background because the night sky often
makes me think of the size of the world. The concept of the size of the world
and the number of people in it constantly moving and living, all having their own
lives independent of anything I know.
