“What if the water that came out of the shower was treated with a chemical that responded to a combination of things, like your heartbeat and your body temperature and your brainwaves, so that your skin changed color according to mood? If you were extremely excited your skin would turn green, and if you we're angry you'd turn red, obviously, and if you felt like shiitake you'd turn brown and if you we're blue you'd turn blue.

Everyone could know what everyone else felt and we could be more careful with each other, because you'd never want to tell someone who skin was purple that you're angry at her for being late, just like you'd want to pat a pink person on the back and say, "Congratulations!”
Jonathan Safran Foer, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close

The eye is a very symbolic entity in many beliefs; it is depicted in many different styles and has very different meanings. In Egypt the Eye of Horus is a very significant symbol, it is the symbol of a falcon-headed god known as Horus. It represents protection, good health, and power. I have this symbol all around my house, my family is Egyptian and we hang up this symbol to protect us and give us good health. I wear a necklace symbolizing the eye of Horus as well; it plays a big part in my life.
A hand is depicted in my self-portrait; hands are symbolic in many beliefs. The hand in my portrait is my left hand, meaning that it is the lunar hand, which symbolizes illumination. The hand itself symbolizes, emotion, receiving, and the unconscious state. I included it in my portrait because I find that the meaning is impactful. I believe that emotion has a great responsibility in our lives, its what holds us together and breaks us apart. Without emotion we would perceive nothing. I also believe that the act of receiving is significant in life, without receiving you acquire nothing; it is the act that gives us knowledge. I also strongly trust the unconscious state, as humans when we are aware we seem to hide emotions and beliefs, but in the unconscious state we forget to hide. I believe that this is an important state in the mind, to just let everything go and be free in what you do, without consequences of conscious life.
