Artist Statement

In my collage about my philosophical thought there are several topics, showing what is and will be important in my life. Freedom, fun, money, efficiency, successfulness, innovation and the huge questions bout how I’m going to live my life. In the bottom left corner money is depicted because without it life wouldn’t work. It points to the huge question mark in the middle of the collage. The actual question behind it is, if being rich is really necessary, because other things are important, too. Is success, represented by the trophy, only shown by money or something else as well? A little bit above this a bird shows up, that symbolizes freedom. Freedom is important for me because I want to be who I am. Able to fly wherever I want to go. The compass symbolizes going forward in life, always changing his direction. It points to the huge empty horizon the boat sails to. I want to live free and travel a lot in life and take my time, which is what the watch represents. The jazz band at the very bottom of the collage expresses having fun together and working as a team. I play in the jazz band at Ross and therefore music is an important part of my life. The German flag made out of landscapes shows that I am proud of my country and want to live with German mentality and quality that is represented by the Porsche 911, which is a German car. Listening to people is very important. Therefor I decided to put headphones on it. Working is a central part of my philosophical thought. I don’t want to sit in the office all the time analyzing the economy. I want to invent, construct and actually work on mechanism and technology devices. That’s the reason why chose a blue paper and a sketch to put on my collage at the left side. The motherboard and the iPhone symbolize my interest in hardware devices and software programming. Building, inventing and innovating things. that’s what I would love to do. Engineering. You have to make decisions all the time, which the dice shows in a pretty clear way. The big Question of this whole collage is, if all this stuff is really important. The only thing I can say for sure is that I am not sure how I wasn’t to live my life. That’s the reason for the big question mark in the middle. The statement of this collage that I haven’t decided how I want to live yet. I guess how I want to live but not for sure.

Philosophical Paragraph

Actually I don’t really have thought about my own philosophy before. I just stand up in the morning, survive the day and go to bed at the evening. But I think the most important part of life is family and friends. They can help with any troubles you have. Life without family and friends is a sad life. Making something sensible, meaningful and something that I have fun to do is the best mixture for a good day, I guess. These are three aspects, which are really important. If these points are in a good balance the day was a good day. But if I only do homework the whole evening and go to bed without doing something that I like to do this day is not that good. Having fun is an important aspect of life. But if you don’t do something meaningful either and just sitting in front of your computer all the time playing videogames, this might be fun in the first few weeks but you won’t get happy with that the entire life. My philosophical quote is therefor “Live every day as if it would be your last one” by James Dean. I like this quote very much because it makes you try to do your best of the day, even if it is hard. Of course it is not that easy to live that way, but I keep trying to follow this quote and live my life…
