Self Portrait

Artist Statement: "The past is now part of my future; the present is well out of hand." I think there is unclearness within life; there's a lot we just can't understand. To me, there are three parts in which the mind exists; the past, present, and future. Being that the present is near inexistent, people tend to focus a lot on the past and future. Like the quote explains, when you can understand the quickness of the present, the need for the past and future to be at peace is clear. In addition, i believe there are two components that divide a person; thinking and feeling. To try to focus the two within the same direction is difficult. Even more difficult is trying to balance the two, but either way, they're both important to a person's connection to life. If you can't understand how you feel through the way that you think, you can't know yourself or really live your life. Basically, having a mind that's in unison is really difficult, but by understanding that the unclearness of life isn't a bad thing, people can begin to understand themselves. To get this across I showed a simple image of myself thinking. Above this i showed an image of myself (my mind) facing two separate directions. The bottom image is clear, because thought can bring clearness to life. But, the top image is hazy and without focus, because the process of reaching clarity isn't simple (because the mind runs in many directions). Trial and Error: It was most difficult to think of an image to represent my philosophy… and then being able to take the photo… thankfully my sister was able to help me.
