For my Self Portrait I took a picture of me in front of a deteriorated building with my surfboard. I feel as though this building and I have a lot in common. This building is the first lighthouse in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. It is locally known as Las Ruinas, which means the ruins, in Spanish. It was built in 1889. This building has been doing the same thing all these years and has been through a lot. But it is still standing and will be for a very long time. Surfing and I have been through a lot also. Iv been surfing and competing my whole life, and at times it does get very stressful. Sometimes I think about just quitting and throwing everything away that I’ve worked so hard for, but in the end I always go back. Surfing will always be in my heart and a part of me, and no matter how stressful it gets, I will never really leave it.
