Self Portrait
C.S. Lewis once said, “Humans are amphibians – half spirit and half animal. As spirit they belong to the eternal world, but as animals they inhabit time”. In my self-portrait I am trying to show this, by adding the paws over my arms. In a way, I think that humans are all animals. Without law and justice we would all be running around wildly, doing nothing but what we want and feel like. As the quote says, we are half human and half spirit, our spirits belong to the eternal world, but as animals we roam the world as of this moment. However, other than animals, we have the power of making our own decisions, and have our own dreams, which is why the rest of my body is still as it was originally. The clouds represent our dreams. In my portrait I am trying to look as if I am dreaming, or thinking about something. We are both human and animal, all in different ways.
